Gilberto Gil is one of the most important musicians in the Brazilian and world music scene. The artist has won several Grammy and Latin Grammy awards, was also awarded the National Order of Merit in 1997 by the French government, and designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in 1999 as well.

With a career spanning over 50 years, Gil tours Europe, the Americas and Asia every year to take his music to new horizons. Rhythms from northeastern Brazil, such as baião, as well as samba and bossa nova were fundamental in his music formation, while also using influences such as rock, reggae, funk and Bahian rhythms, to create his own style.
