This is the second album by Banda Mantiqueira, the most important Brazilian big band of the last fifty years. In “Bixiga”, the band’s leader, sax player Nailor Proveta, together with his bandmates feature unreleased versions of original compositions by most renowned composers such as Pixinguinha, Abel Ferreira, Cartola, Nelson Cavaquinho, and João de Barro. By exploring more deeply Brazilian genres such as choro and samba, the band potentially extends these traditions with amazing arrangements and improvisations.
