One of The São Paulo Symphonic Jazz Orchestra’s aim is to rescue the tradition of great orchestras in Brazil, and it does it by applying a symphonic treatment to Brazilian popular music. Furthermore, in this context, it introduces unique elements of the genre, thus transforming the popular music language and universalizing the valuable works of Brazilian composers.
This CD features recriations of popular works by Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Pixinguinha, and Paulinho da Viola, as well as unreleased compositions and orchestrations by Nelson Ayres, Cyro Pereira, and Edmundo Villani. Together, the tracks show us the strength of a cohesive and original orchestral group.
