This album is the result of a creative coexistence that began in May 1998 during the recording of “Forças D’Alma” by drummer Tutty Moreno along with bassist Rodolfo Stroeter, pianist André Mehmari, and saxophonist and clarinetist Nailor Proveta. These four musicians together with flutist and saxophonist Teco Cardoso have recorded “Nonada” in 2005 with the aim of exploring traditional Brazilian popular music, and expanding it through complete freedom of expression and significant impovisations. It is the recreation of the works of some pillars of Brazilian music, such as Dorival Caymmi, Ary Barroso, Baden Powell, Moacir Santos, and Hermeto Pascoal that sets the album’s tone, in a way which traditional compositions are treated with reverence and, at the same time, are reinvented.
“Nonada” presents the songs in a cohesive and mature way, fruit of the creativity of the players, as it expands the repertoire of Brazilian instrumental music. The CD received a Latin Grammy Award nomination in 2008.
